Hogsback Clean – up Campaign
Our planned clean-up of the village went quite well, besides a couple of hiccups much work was done and the village looks a bit more attractive to host our visitors this weekend.
I would really like to take this opportunity to thank a number of people without whom this operation would not have been possible.
Craig Els for organizing the “Working For Fire” team, Chris Everton of Rance Timbers and Nadia Schenk for loaning us two tip trucks for two days. The hospitality owners: Peter Colivas from “The Edge” As always Peter, you are a rock. Graeme Sinclair, Hogsback Inn, you are a star, being there when I thought we could not get things right.
I could not help but have huge admiration for Denise from Kings Lodge, she worked the entire day pulling weeds and clearing debris. Viv Lodge from May Lodge, who so generously gave us her wonderful gardener Vuyani, Dan from “Away with the Fairies”, your Samson and his sidekick were amazing. Shane from Terra Kaya send workers. Clive Morcom gave us a hand and loaned us equipment and labor, Joanne Tressidar helped for some time, and Lynda Delport loaned us her incredible Anele, who swung his brush cutter for eight hours without one single complaint, also Gordon Johnson who loaned us staff to clear around his intersection and of course Etienne Paroz, who cleared the corner of Summerton and Main Road the day before, because he was leaving Hogsback the next day and wanted to make sure that he brings his side. Peter Walker and his brother-in-Law Nick were also of great help.
I have to mention one person especially, Diane van Der Walt, whom I had not met before, worked tirelessly, organized a section of the clearing with great efficiency, used her bakkie to transport rubbish away and simply was a huge help.
On top of all of this, on my many trips up and down the road, I met Jeanette Dick, Deidre Bowker and Liz & Ron Kidson. None of them had laborers, but actually were working themselves. My great admiration to these gentle people, who are the core of Hogsback and hopefully will set the tone for our village still for many years to come.
My thanks equally go to the many landowners who used this opportunity to give their verges an extra sparkle, saving us the effort to clear them ourselves.
If I have omitted anybody from my list of wonderful people who assisted, please forgive me and don’t withdraw your help for the next clean up. We will continue organizing these events, hopefully monthly or even more often, until Hogsback is a beautiful village again which we can all be proud of.
